Israelites were misled by Gibeonites & were hoodwinked into making a treaty of peace with them.

This led Israel into serious trouble.

Five Amorite Kings joined forces to make a concerted attack on Gibeon.

Then Joshua received a message from the Gibeonites telling of the attack, saying, "Please do not abandon your servants. Come up to us quickly & save us!"

It seemed quite ironic that Joshua would go to help of a people who had deceived him, but he knew that Israel could not afford to lose any ground to the wicked Kings of Canaan
